This article on blackbookmag.com makes a strong-if a little sarcastic at times-point regarding the puppy “business”. While I agree that there are many wonderful and reputable breeders who simply want to share a breed they have personally come to love, we all acknowledge the prevelance of puppy mills today. PLEASE, PLEASE consider ADOPTING a dog or puppy before you purchase a dog from a breeder. And no reputable breeder will sell their dogs to a pet store so please avoid purchasing a dog from a pet store at all costs. If you are searching for a specific breed I urge you to visit petfinder where you can find any breed imaginable in a shelter or rescue.

Our little littermates, Keightley and Riesling, have been enjoying the wintry weather we’ve been having lately!! Keightley isn’t too happy about wearing a pink coat, but it fit him better than his sister, so we’re reminding him that real men wear pink!

I have to say that when I read the article on MSNBC about the Boca Raton, Fl couple who cloned their beloved dog, I was outraged. I have entertained the idea of having a clone of a favorite pet, I’m sure many of us have daydreamed that our furbabies could live forever in some capacity or other. At a pricetag of over $150, 000 though, one begins to wonder about the greater good. First, just because you clone a dog, giving it the same genetic background, does not give you the same dog. Dogs are in many ways a product of their environment. While a cloned dog may have a similar disposition, temperment and of course, look the same; it is not guaranteed to have the same personality. Furthermore, and most importantly, how can anyone who has ever loved a dog spend $150,000 on one dog when that amount could save so many canine lives. Imagine how many dogs (and cats) could be saved from needless euthanasia with a donation of that size to a local shelter or rescue group. How selfish and irresponsible to create one life when you could save so many that are already here, through no fault of their own and desperately need help.
